About our school

Mount Alvernia College at Kedron is the only Catholic secondary school (Years 7-12) for young women in the Franciscan Tradition in Queensland. Here, girls are provided with a well-rounded education through academic challenge, a variety of sporting and cultural endeavours and meaningful social justice programs. They come to know themselves and their purpose in life by living the gospel values of courage, service, respect and joy.

Mount Alvernia College graduates distinguish themselves through their capacity to serve the community and use wise, ethical leadership. At the heart of our Franciscan education is our unique commitment to Educational Wellbeing and the development of the whole person. We know that exceptional student care within a learning community will only be possible when the best elements of wellbeing and academic challenge interconnect in an environment of high support and high challenge.

At Mount Alvernia College, we offer a contemporary and forward-thinking pedagogical approach. We harness the unique capabilities of all students, guiding them into adulthood as leaders in their community. Our curriculum, whilst challenging, offers students a vast range of academic and vocational pathways – it’s not a ‘one size fits all’ approach. We pride ourselves in fostering the growth of highly developed, emotionally resilient women of courage and distinction. With a core focus on producing audacious, aspiring and authentic young people, students who are well-equipped critical thinkers, emulating a ‘we not me’ approach to life. We simply exist to empower young women to be hope-filled with a desire for learning and life – equipped to transform the world.

Principal's Message

Instilled with the Franciscan charism of our foundress Elizabeth Hayes, Mount Alvernia College is a thriving learning community with over 960 students. Every student is known by name, valued, respected and are boldly seeking their aspirations with purpose and meaning. We pride ourselves on producing graduates that are globally aware and empowered to use their voice and talents to respond to the needs of the time.

With a workforce consisting of capable, agile and innovative staff we are a school of choice for both teachers and students. Guided by Gospel values of Courage, Joy, Respect and Service, we empower our students to be hope-filled and resilient, with agency for learning and life, to transform our world.

With the life of Elizabeth Hayes epitomising the value of courage, this is our chosen focus value of 2022. As a community, we believe that courage is the embodiment of a spirited learner and leader. It is the virtue that helps us to face challenge and that calls out injustice. With visionary and sustainable master-planning behind us, we look confidently ahead at our future.
