Mater Christi College – Our Past, Our Present, Our Future

Mater Christi College was founded in 1963 by The Sisters of the Good Samaritan, who had originally come to Australia from England to provide educational opportunities for the disadvantaged, particularly women and girls.

That small school on the hill in Belgrave was established in response to the needs of the community at the time yet has grown far beyond what was originally envisaged by the Sisters.

For over 60 years now, Mater Christi College has continued to provide excellence in all-girls education.

Our Good Samaritan Heritage remains at the heart of all that we do. From generation to generation, we have been committed to educating girls to become informed, compassionate and creative, to walk gently on the earth as stewards of creation and to be a voice for the voiceless.

Today, we are incredibly proud of our forward-thinking academic programs, commitment to student wellbeing, and extensive co-curricular program, where each student has opportunities to explore her interests and talents, learn about herself and the world around her, and find a place to belong.

Looking to the future, we will continue to adapt, progress and be open to new possibilities to meet the challenges of our ever-changing world.
