Mary MacKillop College – Our Past, Our Present, Our Future
In 2024, Mary MacKillop College will celebrate 60 years of educating young women in the Josephite tradition. In our 60th year we will reflect on our story and remember all individuals who have generously contributed to our vibrant, joy-filled community.
Mary MacKillop College sits in the heart of Nundah and has a rich history. Prior to European settlement the land on which the College stands was inhabited by the Turrbul people. The first European settlers re-named the area German Station for the purpose of Lutheran ministry and farming. In 1915, Archbishop Duhig purchased the property where the Josephite convent now stands and invited the Josephite sisters from Sydney to open a school in Nundah. The Sisters arrived in January 1916, opening a primary day and boarding school shortly afterwards.
The grounds of the College served as a base for the Allied Forces during World War II. In 1953 a Juniorate was opened for girls wishing to enter the Josephite order. Mary MacKillop College officially opened in 1964 welcoming over 180 initial students, and since then the College has established a reputation for working with families to empower young women to have confidence and the capability to be truly remarkable.
