I was explaining to my three-year-old daughter this morning that Mummy and Daddy have the day off tomorrow. When she asked why, I replied “because it’s Anzac Day” and thought nothing more of it. She didn’t even ask me what Anzac Day was, but after chatting with some other parents with children slightly older, I’ve found it can be a tricky topic to cover and now I’m kind of grateful she chose not to go down that path just yet.
Some of my friends’ kids were asking questions such as: ‘Why were they fighting?’ and ‘How did they die?’
I do recall having a similar conversation with my boys, now nine and seven.
