Principal's Message

Children at St Michael’s Catholic School, Palm Island, are positive and curious learners, possessing a certain charisma in their sense of humour and affectionate nature.

Welcome to our school website. Please explore and discover the beauty and individuality of our close-knit school community.

St Michael’s School exists to serve the community’s Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people, the majority being of Aboriginal descent. The Christian and Indigenous values of sharing and respect for family life are intimately interwoven and find expression in our relationships and Aboriginality.

Our school provides a structured environment where students and staff live and learn together in productivity and harmony through culturally appropriate, relevant, progressive opportunities based on the Australian Curriculum.

Parents expect their children be well educated so as to aspire to their dreams. The children often begin schooling equipped with their own Palm Island English, sometimes without literacy skills relating to Australian Standard English.

At St Michael’s we strive to develop students’ talents and skills with constant encouragement to channel these gifts in a productive manner. Students thrive on achievement, while at the same time, may become easily frustrated when mistakes are made. As staff we have high expectation relationships, by providing positive role models to guide them in their growth to become effective decision makers we work to educating the future leaders of Australia.

I invite you to get in contact should you have any questions about our wonderful school.
