About our school

St Matthews Catholic School, Mudgee is a Kindergarten to Year 12 Catholic school within the Bathurst Diocese. Our first Year 11 cohort began at the school in 2015, and completed their Higher School Certificate in 2016.

Adjacent to the CBD, St Matthews is in close proximity to our Parish Church – St Mary’s, Mudgee Swimming Pool and various sports grounds. Catholic Education in Mudgee has existed since 1861.

In 1874 the Sisters of Mercy arrived and the Convent was built in 1879. The original St Matthews school was built in 1912 with additions in 1936, 1957, 1965 and 2011. In September 1992 the entire pre-1965 section of the school was destroyed by fire. The recent school additions were blessed and opened by Bishop Michael McKenna on Friday 30th March, 2012.

As a Christian educational community we promote meaningful values and vision, based on the life of Jesus Christ. Our school motto is Veritas Magna et Praevalebit (Truth and Excellence will Prevail). This refers to a whole school atmosphere characterised by the search for what is true. The values are expressed not only in our Religious Education curriculum but also in the values that underpin all our Key Learning areas and co-curricular activities.

Principal's Message

At St Matthews we believe that all students can grow in their learning and achieve at high levels. We work collaboratively to create an environment which celebrates our faith, encourages students to strive for excellence and supports wellbeing. As a Catholic school, we embrace the St Matthews Way, which calls all in our community to Excellence, Compassion, Respect, Courage and Service. By living out these values, students are supported to become the best person they can be, so that they can ultimately make a tangible and positive difference in our world.

We pride ourselves on our modern facilities, clear standards, high expectations of students, our fine record of academic success and care for each individual student. This, combined with a wide range of sporting and cultural activities, challenges every student to identify their talents and develop them.

Our students are taught by committed and enthusiastic staff in a learning environment that recognises the needs of the individual.

St Matthews greatly values its relationships with its families and encourages them to partner with us as their sons and daughters progress through the school. A commitment to be involved in the education of your son or daughter through participation in the life of the school brings untold benefits to parents. Meeting other parents and involvement in this phase of your child’s journey is a wonderful experience not to be missed. The support and involvement of parents is very much part of the ‘St Matthews Way’.

I invite you to visit the school and to experience for yourself the rich learning environment at St Matthews Catholic School.
