About our school

St Mary’s Cathedral College, located in the heart of the city, is a dual-campus coeducational institution catering to students from Kindergarten to Year 12. Our dedication lies in fostering the full potential of each student, promoting high performance, and embracing an educational ethos marked by excellence in teaching and learning.

Our innovative curriculum is designed to challenge and inspire our students, bringing joy to their learning experience. Our approach to learning allows students to apply their in-school education to real and authentic situations as independent, creative and critical thinkers.

As a college in the heart of Sydney’s CBD, our students benefit from the unparalleled learning opportunities afforded by a global city. Everyday lessons include regular opportunities to benefit from local museums, art galleries and other cultural institutions.

As a world-class chorister school, we recognise the transformative power of music. Our students are given the opportunity to develop both their musical talents and aesthetic appreciation of the arts. The stunning backdrop of St Mary’s Cathedral serves as a constant source of inspiration, encouraging students to deepen and celebrate their Catholic faith through social outreach activities and a rich prayer life.

Principal's Message

2024 marks a significant milestone in the history of St Mary’s Cathedral College as we celebrate our Bicentenary.

A Catholic school has been a constant presence on the College’s current site since 1824, and in many ways this College represents the rich tapestry of educational excellence that has been characteristic of Catholic Education in Australia. For 200 years stories of faith, wisdom and hope have been told on these grounds.

Whilst the charisms have changed over time, the centrality of the cathedral has been a constant. Thousands of young men and young women have had the privilege of walking through the Cathedral doors to encounter Christ. In 2024, like 1824, the students of St Mary’s Cathedral College will continue the journey of faith and learning, setting strong foundations for a future filled with hope.

Facilities

St Mary’s Cathedral College boasts modern and welcoming facilities beyond the norm, including access to the Domain, Art Gallery and St Mary’s Cathedral. These facilities enable students to engage in both collaborative and independent learning, building on the skill sets they need for the future.

Already a landmark school, St Mary’s will grow to become a dual campus college. The second site, located on William Street, will cater to the rising demand of enrolments. This campus will feature state of the art facilities including a performance space, gymnasium, augmented reality and technology spaces, multi-purpose break areas and more.
