About our school

At St Martin de Porres we are proud of the fact that we know everyone by name. We are enriched by the many cultures and backgrounds of our students and their families and as a school community, we are inclusive of all who come here, familiar or otherwise.

We are a multi-faith community and everyone is free to share their beliefs and customs with each other. Importantly though, we are a Catholic school, and all are called to know and celebrate the Catholic faith through prayer and scripture, symbolism and tradition.

We offer a dynamic and innovative learning environment. The minute you walk into our recently refurbished learning spaces, you are met with a sense of calm and a focus on purposeful learning. This is complemented by the buzz of excitement that comes with discovery and creativity.

St Martin de Porres is a Visible Learning school where learners know what they are learning, why, and what success looks like. Learning intentions and success criteria support learners in knowing what to do, be or know. Feedback is focussed on their next step in learning and the dispositions of creativity, curiosity, resilience, reflection, collaboration and motivation are taught and highly valued alongside content knowledge and skill development

Principal's Message

Founded in 1972, St Martin de Porres Catholic Primary School enjoys a proud tradition as a family and community-centred school in the Laverton Parish.

“A pervading sense of inclusion and belonging. Parents, staff and students expressed pride and privilege in belonging to the St Martin de Porres School community.”
School Reviewer 2024

These words, captured in our recent school review report, truly captures what makes St Martin de Porres such a special place. The reviewer came to this conclusion after spending time with our staff, students and parents, and it is a reflection of the collaborative spirit that binds us together.

Here at St Martin de Porres, we believe that pride in our school goes hand-in-hand with a sense of belonging. We take great care in cultivating a welcoming environment that reflects not just academic excellence, but also a commitment to well-being. Walk through our doors and you’ll find clean grounds, well-maintained facilities, and vibrant learning spaces that inspire creativity and engagement.

We currently meet the needs of 276 beautiful students from diverse multi-cultural backgrounds in this rapidly growing community.
It is a school valued for its innovation and excellence in teaching, commitment to student wellbeing, and positive partnerships with parents and the parish.

At St Martin de Porres, we believe that the teaching of English and Mathematics is our core business. Through explicit and targeted teaching at the student’s level, we strive to improve outcomes and achievement and strive for excellence. We also encourage our students to be actively involved in their learning, accepting challenges, and being encouraged to take risks and explore their own creativity in all curriculum areas.

To further enrich student learning, we offer five specialist subjects for students to engage in and explore: Japanese, Physical Education, Sustainability, Visual Arts, Music & Drama, and Digital Technologies. These subjects provide opportunities for students to develop knowledge in other curriculum areas, fostering curiosity, creativity, and critical thinking.

We promote a culture of inquiry-based learning, incorporating effective learning of knowledge, strategies, and future skills. We attempt to integrate all areas of the curriculum where possible, allowing students to find meaning in their learning and make connections with their world.

Students at St Martin de Porres enjoy the benefits of learning in a small school. All the children know each other across the years and develop strong bonds with classmates. The school offers smaller class sizes and excellent facilities in a safe, well-maintained learning environment. Before and after-school care is available on-site.

You are warmly invited to tour the school as we believe that “every day is open day”.
Ring to make an appointment through the office to see our vision in action and experience confident, resilient children who take pride in their school.
