About our school
At St Martin de Porres we are proud of the fact that we know everyone by name. We are enriched by the many cultures and backgrounds of our students and their families and as a school community, we are inclusive of all who come here, familiar or otherwise.
We are a multi-faith community and everyone is free to share their beliefs and customs with each other. Importantly though, we are a Catholic school, and all are called to know and celebrate the Catholic faith through prayer and scripture, symbolism and tradition.
We offer a dynamic and innovative learning environment. The minute you walk into our recently refurbished learning spaces, you are met with a sense of calm and a focus on purposeful learning. This is complemented by the buzz of excitement that comes with discovery and creativity.
St Martin de Porres is a Visible Learning school where learners know what they are learning, why, and what success looks like. Learning intentions and success criteria support learners in knowing what to do, be or know. Feedback is focussed on their next step in learning and the dispositions of creativity, curiosity, resilience, reflection, collaboration and motivation are taught and highly valued alongside content knowledge and skill development

Principal's Message
Founded in 1972, St Martin de Porres Catholic Primary School enjoys a proud tradition as a family‑centred, community‑focused school in the Laverton Parish.
Our 2024 School Review described SMDP as “a pervading sense of inclusion and belonging… a community that parents, staff and students feel proud and privileged to be part of.” This captures exactly what makes our school such a special place.
At SMDP, high expectations and strong relationships shape every child’s learning experience. We believe every student is capable of growth and deserves access to excellent teaching, a rich curriculum and the right support at the right time. Our classrooms are safe, predictable and supportive, enabling students to take risks, try new strategies and persist through challenges.
Our curriculum is coherent, knowledge‑rich and aligned with the Victorian Curriculum and the Religious Education Curriculum. Teachers work collaboratively to design learning that is evidence‑based, engaging and sequenced so students build deep understanding over time. Assessment is ongoing and purposeful, helping teachers track progress, plan next steps and ensure every learner is supported. Families receive clear, meaningful reporting through formal reports and ongoing updates via Seesaw.
We currently meet the needs of 255 students from diverse cultural backgrounds in a rapidly growing community. Our school is valued for its innovative teaching, strong focus on wellbeing and positive partnerships with families and the parish. Students also enjoy a rich specialist program including Japanese, Auslan, Physical Education, Sustainability, Visual Arts, Music & Drama and Digital Technologies.
Choosing a school is an important decision, and seeing a community in action often tells you more than words can. We warmly invite you to visit St Martin de Porres, walk through our learning spaces and speak with our staff. We would be delighted to share how we support every child to feel known, valued and ready to thrive.
