Welcome to St Joseph’s Primary School, Chelsea. My name is Martine Verhagen, and as Principal, I look forward to working in partnership with our teachers, parents and the Chelsea parish to support your child throughout their educational journey.
At St Joseph’s, we are committed to developing the whole child within a supportive and inclusive Catholic learning community. Guided by our faith and Gospel values, we nurture each child to grow with confidence, compassion and a strong sense of purpose.
Our teaching and learning approach is grounded in the MACS Vision for Instruction, with a strong emphasis on explicit instruction and evidence-informed practices that support learner success. Teachers provide clear learning intentions, model new learning and guide students through structured practice. The systematic teaching of phonics is a key priority, ensuring strong foundational literacy skills that underpin all learning.
We offer a range of specialist programs and extracurricular opportunities that enrich the curriculum and support student engagement. Through regular feedback, goal setting and the monitoring of individual progress, students are encouraged to become reflective, motivated learners.
Our vision is to prepare students to be active and responsible members of a global community, with an awareness of sustainability and the opportunities of the 21st century. Central to this is our strong sense of partnership between students, staff, parents and the wider community. Living our motto, “Always Faithful, Always Flourishing, Always Learning,” we strive to follow in Jesus’ footsteps, fostering a community where faith, learning and wellbeing are deeply connected.
