Early Learning to Year 12 Co-Educational
In the vibrant community of Katherine, St Joseph’s Catholic College is a faith-filled learning haven where young hearts and minds are gently shaped from Early Learning through Year 12. As a dynamic co-educational community, St Joseph’s College specialises in forming young men and women through innovative teaching and an inclusive spirit committed to respect, resilience, and healthy relationships—partnering with families to nurture faith, good character, strong intellect, a generous spirit, and the confidence to lead and serve with joy.
At St Joseph’s, faith is the warm light guiding every step, drawing from Catholic traditions to build a moral compass that inspires kindness and purpose. Their Religious Education invites students to explore God’s love through prayerful moments and community gatherings, fostering resilient souls ready to embrace life’s challenges with grace and empathy.
Learning thrives in an engaging environment where subjects and teaching styles spark curiosity and prepare students for the world ahead. From the primary school’s foundational adventures to the secondary campus’s deeper explorations, their strong academic program balances achievement with character growth—ensuring every child feels supported to be their best in all they do.
St Joseph’s Early Learning Centre accommodates children aged 3–5 who thrive in a faith-based Long Day Care, combining the Early Years Learning Framework and Northern Territory Preschool Curriculum with Catholic prayers, celebrations, and Godly Play to support their spiritual growth. Through play-based enquiry, hands-on cooking, gardening, nature explorations, and excursions, they foster curiosity, social-emotional growth, confidence, and empathy—supported by a healthy menu and integral SEL for lifelong skills. Dedicated educators ensure consistent care and smooth transitions to Transition, creating a safe, inclusive haven for little learners.
The school’s curriculum is designed to nurture the whole child, guided by Catholic values that equip students to lead and serve with confidence in Katherine’s vibrant community.
Primary School: Transition to Year 6 follows the Australian Curriculum (AC) and Journey in Faith Religious Education program, teaching, assessing, and reporting in line with NT Board of Studies Policy. This creates foundational learning where faith and academics intertwine, fostering curiosity and moral growth through inclusive play.
Middle School: Years 7–9 are on the same campus as Primary, for seamless progression, students are grouped by learning level (especially in mathematics) for personalised support. Small class sizes in Years 8 and 9 offer intensive Science assistance, with diverse teaching strategies and online platforms like Stile, Prodigy, and PAT. Specialist facilities include a commercial kitchen, an art room with a kiln, a wood room, and a science laboratory, while our inclusion team provides in-class and out-of-class support. Homework help is available before school and at recess.
Senior College: Years 10–12 emphasise positive relationships, dignity, self-esteem, and integrity; the curriculum promotes inclusion and understanding through Catholic faith. Students engage in community projects to make a local impact, preparing them as compassionate leaders.
VETiS (Vocational Education and Training in Schools): Accredited training from Certificate I to Diploma contributes to the Northern Territory Certificate of Education and Training (NTCET), covering trades, health, business, retail, hospitality, tourism, and technology. Mandatory work placements apply classroom learning in real workplaces, building practical skills for future success.
Our holistic, supportive curriculum—blending rigour with kindness—ensures your child thrives academically and spiritually. Principal's Message
Here at St.Joseph’s we are a faith-filled learning community that specialises in the formation of young men and women and offers a liberating education based on innovative teaching within an inclusive community committed to Respect, Resilience, and Healthy relationships.
In partnership with parents, St Joseph’s Catholic College aims to develop young men and women of faith, good character, strong intellect, generous spirit, and who will be able to move confidently into the world, and who will use their talents and gifts to lead and serve others.
St Joseph’s is a strong academic College with subjects, teaching styles and activities that ensure students are fully engaged and prepared for life’s challenges. While subjects and academic achievement are important within themselves, their true value lies in helping each student discover and develop their inner spirit and strength of character. Creating a moral compass for life is as important as what students are learning in the classroom. We believe success is not what they become, but who they become.
We are proud of our student’s successes and growth, whether in the Primary school or Secondary campus. Our appeal as a college rest in our strong Community spirit, the values we strive to maintain, our commitment to realising the potential of every child in our care, and in providing a balanced education that addresses the academic, social, and emotional, physical and spiritual aspects of our pupil’s lives.
The mission statement of the College seeks students to develop strength in the areas of Respect, Relationship, and Resilience, our aim is for each and every student to be the best in all they do. We ask them to demonstrate outstanding levels of attendance, appearance, courtesy, respect, and work ethic throughout their time at the College.
