About our school

Years 7 to 12 Co-Educational

Situated in the heart of Darwin St John’s Catholic College is a welcoming Catholic co-educational community for Years 7 to 12, where local and international students come together to thrive. Established in 1960 and drawing its charism from the Missionaries of the Sacred Heart (MSC) and Daughters of Our Lady of the Sacred Heart (OLSH), the College embodies the spiritual vision of Father Jules Chevalier—fostering a safe, connected haven of faith, belonging, and excellence for all, regardless of background.

Guided by the motto Fortes in Fide (“Strong in Faith” from 1 Peter 5:8-9), St John’s creates a place where students lead, live, love, and learn with spiritual depth. Faith formation invites young hearts to witness Christ’s mission through compassion and service, building resilient souls ready to contribute to local and global communities.

Spanning two campuses linked by a scenic walkway over the Darwin Botanical Gardens, the College delivers a balanced Catholic education that nurtures holistic growth. Academic rigour meets sporting spirit and cultural vibrancy, with specialist teachers in smaller classes ensuring personalised support. An Intensive English Unit welcomes international and new arrival students, while vocational pathways from Year 10, including external VET courses, open doors to university, careers, and beyond—all underpinned by strong pastoral care and the free Learning Nest after-school homework centre (Monday–Friday, 3:30–5:00 p.m.).

At St John’s, a small-school setting of welcome and belonging, students develop leadership through roles like House Captains and Student Representative Committee—selected via applications, speeches, NT Electoral Commission voting, and Principal interviews. A vertical pastoral program champions wellbeing, while careers counseling charts pathways to Australian universities. Every child feels valued and empowered to make moral choices for a better world within a culturally diverse community.

Enrolments are open across all year levels—contact us at (08) 8927 0111 or visit www.stjohnsnt.catholic.edu.au for a tour, prospectus, or to start the application. Discover why generations flourish here.

At St John’s, each student is known, valued, and supported to achieve their best. We offer a balanced education that nurtures faith, academic excellence, creativity, and wellbeing through a broad range of academic, cultural, and sporting opportunities.
