About our school
St Bernard’s Catholic Primary School traces its origins to 1851, when members of the Bacchus Marsh community founded a small school in the rural edges of the Melbourne Archdiocese. Across more than 170 years, the St Bernard’s community has been animated by a vibrant faith, supportive community and the formation of the whole child. Situated in the historic part of Bacchus Marsh, St Bernard’s has educated many notable members of the local and global community.
St Bernard’s is a small school community with 320 students, 22 teachers and 12 support staff. One hallmark of St Bernard’s is its continuity: 8 of the 12 staff members with more than 20 years experience in teaching and learning have been at St Bernard’s for at least two decades, and several families boast 8 generations of children attending the school. A second feature of St Bernard’s is a small, caring atmosphere where direct and personal contact between children and teachers supports an intergrated emotional, intellectual and spiritual formation. A third quality is joy: students at St Bernard’s are nurtured in faith and the confidence that they have a unique place in the world, and are part of something greater than themselves.
