About our school
Founded in 1894, St Augustine’s Primary School has a long and proud history of educating children from the Yarraville Parish and surrounding areas.
We believe that the years of primary education are the most vital period in a student’s life. It is during this time that a sound educational base can be laid, on which children can build their future learning. St Augustine’s staff are committed to providing a challenging and enriching educational experience for the children of Yarraville. We believe our school is a secure and stimulating environment in which children are given the opportunity to develop their natural enthusiasm for learning. St Augustine’s is a place where students, teachers and parents actively work together to share the teachings of Jesus and provide a vibrant school community.
The School currently comprises 8 classrooms, with additional rooms specifically set out for Library, Music/Drama, STEM, Italian and Art. We also make use of the following spaces to extend the learning opportunities offered: an assembly area, the large Hall, a commercial kitchen space, a Parish Church and local parklands. The school play spaces have continued to be maintained through targeted maintenance, working bees, regular general cleaning, painting projects and repairs. An ongoing building improvement plan is in place with work to be carried out to improve play areas, toilets and learning areas.
In addition to our curricular activities, our children experience a range of extra-curricular activities designed to add value to the school experience, eg, inter-school sports, school camps, dress-up days, school fun days and excursions. We welcome parents’ attendance at many of these events.
An Outside School Hours Care Program has been a significant help to a number of our families as life’s pressures have increased.
Parent participation is seen as essential to the children’s education with opportunities for parental involvement including information evenings, social gatherings, School Advisory Council, Parents’ Committee, classroom assistance, excursion helpers and attending displays/shows or performances. We benefit from the large number of nationalities represented within our school and celebrate the diversity they bring to our community. We value parent feedback and work hard to ensure communications are managed in a respectful productive manner.

Principal's Message
On behalf of the St Augustine’s School community, I welcome you.
St Augustine’s School is a community of learners who join into educational opportunities, which foster growth of the whole person – physical, emotional, intellectual, social and spiritual. We actively work to plan and implement learning opportunities which engage children in both mind and spirit. Resilient learners can see themselves as lifelong learners who can then shape their future.
Our learning environments empower learners with opportunities for challenge which allow for progress today and into the future. We offer a curriculum with a focus on well-being where we are both supported by and supportive of those around us, thus enabling all students to thrive in our school, parish and wider community as they learn to be global citizens.
St. Augustine’s is a school that is welcoming and accepts enrolments from both Catholic and Non-Catholic families. We offer fee relief for families in need and we welcome and encourage the broader community, especially parents, to gather and join in the numerous events and celebrations held throughout the year. We encourage parental engagement across the school in many ways and value the partnership between home and school which fosters students’ progress, well-being and love of learning.
Please take the time to tour our Website and then contact the School for any further information or to book a tour.
Kind regards,
Matthew Stead – Principal
