The College is situated in a picturesque location, one block away from Lake Mulwala. The College enjoys excellent teaching and learning facilities including well resourced and supported laptop program. The College is situated in close proximity to the town centre, recreation areas and many of the town’s excellent sporting facilities.

Principal's Message

I am proud to be Principal of Sacred Heart College, which has become an integral part of the Yarrawonga and district community. The College takes great pride in playing its part in producing well-rounded, aspirational, confident young people ready to embark on their career.

To that end, the College is constantly striving to evolve and improve our provision of high quality education for our students. All of our teaching staff are engaged in developing and implementing innovative approaches to educating our young people that are backed up by well-respected research. Our teaching teams undertake significant professional development each year with experts in our field in order to bring contemporary skill and knowledge into the classroom and into our students’ educational lives.

Our staff are essential in the successful enactment of our philosophy by the values, relationships, curriculum and practices which are in place in the school.

The College’s mission is to produce curious, future ready students who contribute positively to society, reflecting our Catholic identity and the Mercy ethos. Our Catholic identity and Mercy values are at the centre of our ability to do that. While religious education is an important part of our program, our students experience the sacrament and life giving in a myriad of ways throughout their daily life at the College. Whether it is participating in a special celebratory mass, participating in our Caritas fundraising activities, or participating in our Social Justice group’s activities, our students are encouraged to contemplate and develop empathy with the lives of others.

Pastoral support is provided in a range of ways to all students. The backbone of the College’s student support is the Learning Advisor program that ensures each student has a teacher they can depend on for mentoring and guidance on a daily basis.

Our programs are designed to offer something for every learning style and capability. Our Year 9 students undertake the Morrisby profile which is one of the most widely known and sophisticated services in careers guidance, assisting subject selection for our senior school students to follow their desired pathway.

While our academic programs are very strong and rigorous, the College also takes great pride in its outstanding manual and applied learning environments. The College has extremely well-equipped Engineering and VET Health centres. This provides an industry-simulated environment that introduces design and health-focused careers to our students, meeting a high industry need for this region. Our students can complete VET certificates alongside their VCE. The College also offers a highly regarded VM program as an alternative stream to VCE.

Above all, at Sacred Heart College we take pride in knowing our students, not only as people, but learners as well. Tours of the College can be arranged by contacting the College on 03 5742 1300 or info@shcy.vic.edu.au
