About our school
Our Lady Star of the Sea is situated in John Dory Drive, in a rapidly expanding urban area of Ocean Grove. Our families enjoy a beachside lifestyle. A sea breeze, a walk on the beach or a dip in the ocean are often the rewards for a hard day’s work.
A two-minute walk from the school is the Our Lady Star of the Sea church, which opened in 2002. Parish and school links are a vital aspect in the life of the local Church. Our school offers experiences that encourage children to participate in local parish activities, which help to promote a sense of identity and belonging.
The curriculum caters for the academic, spiritual, personal, social, physical and creative needs of our students.
We nurture a welcoming atmosphere and work in a spirit of cooperation with parents. We believe that the family is the initial teacher in faith education and we foster the child’s ongoing faith development through our Religious Education program, which incorporates the ‘To Know, Worship and Love’ program. We also offer sacramental preparation programs for Reconciliation, Eucharist and Confirmation. The children participate in prayer times, liturgies, and class and school Masses.
We offer a comprehensive curriculum based on the requirements of the Victorian State Government, and the Catholic Education Office Melbourne. We aim to develop the potential of our students and to encourage them to work to achieve their personal best. We believe that the child is at the centre of all learning and that program development should take place with the needs, interests, skills and understandings of the students being the first consideration.
Principal's Message
As Principal of Our Lady Star of the Sea Catholic Primary School in Ocean Grove, I extend a warm welcome to our school community. Situated within Holy Trinity Parish, Queenscliff and under the Archdiocese of Melbourne, our school plays a pivotal role as one of two primary schools (P-6) in the parish. Since its establishment in 1982, Our Lady Star of the Sea has grown significantly in response to increasing enrolment demands.
Our ethos is firmly rooted in fostering a vibrant faith community and strong connections between the school and parish, enhancing our collective sense of belonging and spiritual growth.
Inspired by the life and teachings of Jesus Christ and the Catholic Church traditions, Our Lady Star of the Sea promotes a nurturing, welcoming and respectful atmosphere , embedded in a spirit of cooperation.
At Our Lady Star of the Sea, our “Star Way” philosophy, prioritises student-centered learning, ensuring each child’s needs and interests are central to their educational journey. Our approach includes evidence-based pedagogy, differentiated instruction, and a supportive year level structure known as “Hubs”, where collaboration and teamwork is key to fostering academic and emotional development.
We are committed to developing students’ agency in learning and preparing them to be active, critical citizens in today’s world. Our curriculum integrates Religious Education and Gospel values across all subjects, complementing the Victorian Curriculum. We have a strong emphasis on social justice, wellbeing and sustainability, where we actively strive to make a positive difference within our learning community and beyond, locally and globally.
We are immensely proud of our passionate and dedicated staff and our students who uphold our values of respect, responsibility, and safety, aligned with our motto, “Setting the Right Course.”
Parents and carers are valued partners in education, enriching our school community through their active involvement.
