About our school
Our Lady of the Way School Kingsbury is located approximately 12 kilometres north-east of Melbourne. Established in 1963 with just two classrooms, the school has grown to accommodate 170 students across 7 classes.
A key focus of our educational program has been the full implementation of the evidence base that underpins the Science of Reading and the Science of Learning approach to teaching and learning. As part of this work, we introduced InitiaLit in Prep to Year 2, providing a systematic and synthetic approach to the teaching of phonics.
Drawing on the Science of Learning, all classes from Foundation to Year 6 begin each lesson with a Daily Review. This ensures previously taught knowledge is revisited regularly, supporting students to retain and store information in their long-term memory.
The implementation of Explicit Teaching and using the Science of Reading and Science of Learning as an approach to teaching and learning has had a strong impact on academic achievement across the school.
As a school community we are fully committed to ensuring that children’s social and emotional and educational needs are catered for so that they are able to achieve at the highest level.
