About our school
Our Lady of the Sacred Heart Thamarrurr Catholic School is situated at Wadeye (Port Keats) in the Thamarrurr Region of the Northern Territory, 400 km south west of Darwin. OLSH Thamarrurr Catholic School began in 1935 as part of a Catholic mission in Port Keats, under the guidance of the Daughters of Our Lady of the Sacred Heart. In 2007 the school was officially designated as a Catholic mainstream school, a step that was supported by the community.
The school has grown substantially over the last decade and this has seen the development of a secondary campus, new library and science block and a refurbishment of the trade training centre and kitchen. The school caters for students from Preschool to Year 12 including a homelands classroom at Kuy.
Principal's Message
Welcome to the new Our Lady of the Sacred Heart Thamarrurr Catholic College website. Thamarrurr is the Murrinhpatha word for “people coming together”. Our website aims to celebrate our school – its students, staff, the community and Aboriginal culture that underpins student learning and inherent sense of purpose.
Just like the Woolybutt Tree, our students, staff and community are beautiful and resilient. Despite the many challenges faced by our community, we aim for school to be a safe and welcoming place for teaching and learning.
This year we officially became the fourteenth Learning on Country School in the Northern Territory, and we look forward to the unfolding opportunities that will strengthen our student learning and support their capacity to “walk in two worlds’.
Our school was founded by the Daughters of the Sacred Heart and our motto is “may the Sacred Heart of Jesus be everywhere loved, forever”. In our everyday interactions with students and the wider community we strive to be “the Heart of God in the World Today”.
