About our school
We acknowledge that all members of our school community will flourish when they are part of an environment that supports their internal motivational needs of autonomy, connectedness and competency. In other words, it is critically important that staff and students of OLSH feel that they have some control over their learning choices, that we feel connected and in close relationship with one another and that we can clearly see how we are improving in the various areas of school life.
At OLSH we are committed to providing the best possible learning experience for the students of our school. Our staff are continuously striving to ensure that their teaching approaches and the learning experiences we provide for our learners are embedded in practices that have the greatest possible positive impact on student learning. We use evidence gleaned from research and from our own teaching experiences and professional knowledge, to ensure that our students are constantly exposed to learning and teaching designed to continuously move them on an upward learning trajectory.
Our learners will come to understand that learning is something that requires effort, that mistakes can be valuable learning experiences and that to retain what we learn we need to return to it multiple times throughout the course of the year.
Our staff understands that different students require different levels of adjustment to help them succeed. We also understand that when a child is successful this drives their motivation to be successful again in the future. Whilst not all children are at the same level at the same time, every student is capable of advancing their learning throughout the course of each school term.
What we know about learning is growing significantly through advances in techniques and technologies that help us delve deeper into the brains and minds of learners as they learn. At OLSH, we are committed to ongoing learning so that our learners continue to learn, grow and become the best they can be.
Our Lady of the Sacred Heart are joined with fifty-one Catholic Schools in the Sandhurst Diocese in the exciting, comprehensive and innovative program Magnify Sandhurst – “Every Student, Every Teacher, Every School, Every Day!”
Principal's Message
Welcome to Our Lady of the Sacred Heart (OLSH) School, Elmore — a place where every child is known, loved and inspired to grow in faith, learning and into the fullness of their humanity. We have a long history in Elmore, and our rich heritage and strong sense of community has shaped our school for generations.
At OLSH, we are proud to be a vibrant Catholic community shaped by the spirit of the Daughters of Our Lady of the Sacred Heart. Their legacy of love, service and dedication continues to guide our mission as we care for and nurture students who are reflective, courageous, compassionate and collaborative in all they do.
Our school is open to all families — we warmly welcome students of all backgrounds, faiths and traditions. While our Catholic identity is the foundation of everything we do, we embrace the richness that diversity brings to our community and believe every child deserves to feel a strong sense of belonging, academic excellence and to flourish in every aspect of their life.
Learning at OLSH is grounded in the belief that every child can achieve success. As part of our strong and professional teaching team and Magnify Sandhurst, we are committed to delivering high-impact, evidence-based teaching and learning that ensures all students are engaged, challenged and supported in their learning. Our caring and passionate staff are continually growing as professionals, using the latest research to inform their practice and are committed to deliver effective and meaningful teaching that meets the learning needs of every child, in every classroom, on every day.
We believe that education is a shared journey. Our strong partnerships with families and the wider community help create a learning environment where students feel safe to take risks, know how they best learn, reflect on their growth and we work together to achieve their goals. Through this, we help children develop as lifelong successful learners, a strong sense of self, a deep respect for others and the confidence to contribute positively to the world around them.
As a Catholic school in the Sandhurst Diocese, our faith is central to who we are. We are blessed to be part of the Elmore Parish community, led by Fr Ashley Caldow, and we live out the Gospel in all aspects of school life.
Thank you for considering OLSH for your child’s education. We would be delighted to welcome your child and family into our school community and to walk alongside you as your child begins or continues their learning journey with us.
We invite you to discover the OLSH difference where your child is at the heart of all we do. Please contact the school on (03) 5432 6254 or principal@olshelmore.catholic.edu.au to arrange a school tour or to enrol your child.
Warmest regards,
