About our school

Our Lady of the Pines is a Catholic school where Gospel values permeate the learning environment. We believe that the education of your children is a shared role between parents and teachers, home and school.

Our Lady of the Pines is a medium-sized school in the suburb of Donvale. Our spacious grounds are attractively landscaped, providing seating and shade where needed. The classrooms, specialist areas and library resource centre are air conditioned, heated and very well equipped and resourced. All classrooms, learning areas and library are networked.

Our curriculum is designed to enhance the spiritual, intellectual, social, physical and personal development of each child. We work in partnership with our parent community to nurture the values and traditions of the Catholic faith. Embedded throughout the curriculum are the skills of co-operation, problem solving, innovation, self-direction and the capacity to relate to others and manage change. We use structured and embedded programs to explicitly teach and develop personal and interpersonal learning. Through teachers’ ongoing implementation of the inquiry approach, student levels of engagement and learning outcomes continue to increase. We endeavour to foster the potential of every student through a range of specialist, support and extension programs.

Principal's Message

On behalf of our school community, I welcome you to Our Lady of the Pines Catholic Primary School, Donvale.

Our Lady of the Pines is a two-three stream school with classes from Prep (Foundation) to Year 6 (Senior).  We are a welcoming and inclusive school community, where all students are valued and have a sense of worth. We believe all students have the right to grow and learn in a safe and engaging environment. The core values and mission of the school are based on Gospel Values, and includes a strong culture of care and pastoral support for all students and families.

Our staff are enthusiastic, highly dedicated and committed to the spiritual, emotional, physical, intellectual development and social needs of our students.  We support our students to become life-long learners, feel secure, face the challenges of growing and experience their successes in order to view themselves as valued members of a community who have the capacity to contribute to their world.

At Our Lady of the Pines we offer a dynamic and inclusive curriculum in  learning areas, capabilities and skills that caters for diversity of learning styles and the needs of all students. The basis of our educational philosophy is student-centered learning involving critical thinking, as well as developing  social and emotional awareness where students are adaptable and resilient to change. We provide a range of opportunities such as student leadership, extension and intervention programs, learning support, buddy programs, swimming programs, camps, community projects and specialist subjects in Physical Education, Performing Arts, Visual Arts, Science (STEM), Italian and Library.

We value and support partnerships with parents/carers in the daily education of their children, and believe that this should be founded on mutual respect, cooperation, communication and involvement. It is a privilege to work with families in the education of their child/ren.

Please feel free to explore our website and contact the school (03) 9842 2991 for further information or to arrange a tour of the facilities to personally experience our warm and engaging environment.

Quick Facts

  • Our Lady of the Pines Catholic Primary School is a co-educational primary school catering for students in Donvale and the surrounding areas. The first stage of Our Lady of the Pines was completed for opening in early 1978 with an enrolment of 147 students. In 1990 the church was built and the community became an independent parish.
  • A three-stage building program was completed in 1986 and in 1997 a new building containing six learning areas was added. In 1999, four of the original classrooms were replaced with a new brick-veneer complex containing four new learning areas and amenities. Major refurbishment of the original building took place in 2008.
  • The Physical Education and Community Enrichment Centre (P.E.A.C.E. This building, which was funded by the Federal government and the school, was completed in 2010.
  • In 2018, the school undertook a $2.65 million refurbishment to the school. This project has provided a new and welcoming administration entry to the school and enhances the wonderful facilities and grounds we have at Our Lady of the Pines.
