About our school

In 1971, Fr Anthony Guelen was appointed to build a new church and school in the Western suburbs, of the Archdiocese of Melbourne. Holy Eucharist Catholic School in St Albans South began in 1975. The Sisters of Mercy established the school and Sr Leonie Glennen was appointed as the first Principal. At that time, Holy Eucharist School was the first ‘open plan’ Catholic school in the area. The design of the school was based on the ‘open plan’ concept developed in England.

The school currently has 520 students and 23 classrooms. Ever since the school and parish began, the population has been diverse and multicultural. Approximately 19% of students were born overseas and overall, 93% of the community are of English as an Additional Language background. Many of our families come from Vietnam, Philippines, China, Sudan, Ethiopia, Kenya, Sri Lanka, Pacific Islands, Samoa, Myanmar, Syria, East Timor, Europe and Southern and Central America. As a school, we place great emphasis on respect, inclusion and acceptance.

The gospel values are an essential part of our teaching and Jesus is at the heart of everything we do. We are committed to establishing a strong bond with our families and parish, in order to help our children develop academically, socially and spiritually.

Learning and teaching at the school is guided by the Victorian Curriculum to suit our learners and our local context. The curriculum at Holy Eucharist is personalised, differentiated and scaffolded. We collect student data to ensure that each learner maximises their progress in the key learning areas particularly, Literacy and Numeracy.

We know that children learn best when they feel safe and happy at school. That is why wellbeing is also of a high priority at Holy Eucharist. The teachers and staff work tirelessly to provide a safe, nurturing environment to ensure that all the children feel valued and respected. We believe that strong family partnerships between families and the school, make a great difference in a child’s education

Principal's Message

Dear Families and Friends,

Welcome to Holy Eucharist Primary School, St Albans South. In an ever-changing world, your child’s primary school years are of utmost importance in setting them up for ‘Success in Learning and Life’.

At Holy Eucharist, the gospel values are an essential part of our teaching and Jesus is at the heart of everything we do. We are committed to establishing a strong bond with our families and parish, in order to help our children develop academically, socially and spiritually. We value the ongoing guidance and support of our Parish Priest, Father Vincent Pham who has supported the school, since the beginning of 2020.

Our school emblem features our motto to Engage, Educate and Empower. Our school’s vision states that Holy Eucharist Catholic Primary School is a place: Where strong professional relationships create successful contemporary Learning and Teaching opportunities within the Australian Catholic tradition.

Holy Eucharist is a place where we:

Engage students through contemporary approaches to learning
Educate students using a personalised approach
Empower students to think clearly, act appropriately and embrace their wider community.
At Holy Eucharist School, we place a strong emphasis on developing skills in literacy, numeracy and technology. These skills will assist our students in becoming critical thinkers and lifelong learners. Through the use of data, we are able to tailor a program that focuses on the individual needs of our students. We are able to provide opportunities for growth for all our students whether they have additional needs or they require an extension in their learning.

We believe that strong family partnerships between families and the school make a great difference in a child’s education. Research demonstrates that when families and schools work closely and know one another, children’s learning improves. Therefore, we want to continue developing stronger links between staff and families. As partners, we share the responsibility for our children’s success and want you to know that we will do our very best to carry out our responsibilities.
