About our school
Galilee Regional Catholic Primary School is situated in South Melbourne for students in years Prep–6, and consists of an art room, a library, classrooms, staff resources and an administration area. The recently constructed multi-purpose hall is unique as it caters for students who wish to engage in quiet activities at recess and lunchtime. It is also the school’s venue for fortnightly assemblies as well as a facility for local community groups.
The School opened in 1994, bringing together four local Catholic primary schools to create one blended school community. The four schools were:
• Our Lady of Mount Carmel, Middle Park
• St Joseph’s, Port Melbourne
• Ss Peter and Paul’s, South Melbourne
• Sacred Heart, St Kilda West.
Galilee was created to serve the educational needs of children in the bayside area and to ensure that quality Catholic education would be provided both now and well into the 21st century.
Blending the four existing Catholic parish primary schools meant the creation of a harmonious union of separate but equal elements. To blend these elements in a school and yet develop new structures that would cater for the educational needs of the Catholic community was a huge undertaking.
Galilee is the first regional Catholic primary school in Victoria. It is situated on the former site of St Joseph’s Technical School which closed in 1988.
The future of Catholic education in our region now walks with the motto: “In Christ We LIVE, LOVE and LEARN”.

We focus on developing and nurturing the whole child by offering an outstanding academic program with engaging learning experiences and exceptional extra-curricular activities steeped in the Catholic tradition.
We encourage students to be critical and creative thinkers, problem solvers and active citizens who respond in a socially just way. We offer learning environments that foster collaboration and target the individual needs of each student. We provide nurturing and inclusive learning environments where each student feels safe, valued, respected and supported. Our student leadership program is very strong and encourages student voice and agency. At Galilee we equip students with the skills and mindset needed to flourish in today’s fast paced and ever changing world.
We have an outstanding teaching staff who are passionate and committed to nurturing each student’s development. They take a genuine interest in each student and pride themselves on challenging and supporting each student’s holistic development.
At Galilee, we believe that parents are the first and most important educators in their child’s life. We have a vibrant and very active parent community who are encouraged to become involved in their child’s education.
