About our school

Following the footsteps of that early Irish Christian Missionary, Saint Columba of Iona, Columba Catholic College endeavours to provide deep learning for the mind, a spiritual base for the soul, an athletic dynamism for the body.

Current students, past students, future students and their parents all mesh into the Columba Family which incorporates those parts of our history which once were Mount Carmel College, St. Mary’s College, and St. Columba’s Primary School of Charters Towers. Please peruse the website, and the College itself, if you happen to be in Charters Towers. We hope that you feel most welcome.

Principal's Message

Welcome to Columba Catholic College, For over 140 years, Columba Catholic College has offered an outstanding student experience, encouraging students to be the best they can be with Courage, Commitment and Compassion. With outstanding contemporary facilities across two campuses, we offer a high quality learning experience and value each individual. Our mission is to ensure that each student is known, cared for and respected. As the educational and faith leader of our school community, I have high expectations of our students, staff and families as we work together to foster a culture of excellence; a culture that permeates all aspects of school life.

Columba is a vibrant co-educational P-12 Catholic College that caters for the full needs of families and students with both day and boarding opportunities. With a kindergarten on site, facilitated by Catholic Kindy’s, our educational setting gives families a seamless educational experience spanning across the early, middle and senior years phases of learning. Our P-12 setting gives students access to a wide range of curricular opportunities matched to current and emerging pathways. Students are also afforded an extensive offering of co-curricular activities to grow their spiritual, social, sporting and cultural gifts. Columba Catholic College is a place where children can confidently be themselves in a safe, nurturing and academically challenging environment.

“A good school provides education for the whole person. And a good Catholic school, above this, should help its students to become saints.” Pope Benedict XVI Our focus is your child’s personal growth and like you, our staff are committed to the development of your child. Students at Columba Catholic College have a sense of purpose. Every day, every lesson and every act of service to others counts. As the first educators of your children, we want to work in partnership with you to develop the spiritual, academic, social and emotional capacities of your children to enable them to live a full and meaningful life and to be active contributors to the world in which they work and live.
