Xavier College, Kew VIC – Reimagining Education

Education in a Jesuit school should move easily from schooling to formation, from that which is to be taught to content of character, from what is useful to that which is also of the heart, the imagination and the spirit.

There is a distinctive approach to what we do at Xavier. With our emphasis on building a capacity for reflection in life, service to those in need and a positive outlook on human nature, the College aspires to offer its students a holistic education that stands in some contrast to more narrow or utilitarian approaches. It is an education for life in the fullest sense.

Such an approach accords well with a strong focus on student wellbeing. In a world where an experience of community can be lacking and a sense of belonging can be frayed, Xavier offers a strong experience of connectedness, which is an important protective factor for young people. Our strong co-curricular programs (sport, music, drama etc) are complemented by service and retreat programmes that promote a commitment to social justice and spirituality. We seek to engage our students across all aspects of life.
