Thought Leadership – By Principal Michael Newman, Marist College Ashgrove, QLD
Education at Marist College encompasses two essential strands:
Firstly, it quintessentially preserves the rich history and traditions that have shaped Marist from its beginnings. Our school stands on the shoulders of giants whose enduring legacy is embedded in the very essence of Marist. The charism, ethos, and true spirit of Marist define what is central to our institution. It is imperative that our students, who proudly don our college uniform, embrace these values, faith, expectations, and cultural norms. Key among them is to not just be good Christians but good citizens, making the world a better place.
Secondly, Marist College recognises the need to adapt to the ever-evolving educational paradigm of change. With developing societal expectations and emerging demands including IT, the environment, relationships and a plethora of ethical issues, we must prepare our students to navigate a dynamic world and have the skills to analyse actuality succinctly, so as to embody resilience, respect, and love for all. Further, we acknowledge the unpredictable nature of the job market they will enter, characterised by future employment and roles that have not yet been conceived. Fostering the skills of lifelong learning, adaptability, and innovation in our students is therefore paramount.
