Stella Maris College, Manly NSW – Building Resilience
Stella Maris College students and staff made a smooth transition to online learning when faced with lockdown in 2021. The College set a great example for the students and wider community of building resilience by ensuring continuity of quality education and minimising the impact of COVID-19 during remote learning. Classroom teachers provided real time lessons and monitored student work using a range of online tools. Learning and Teaching Teams supported all teaching staff to formulate the most effective online strategies and creative approaches to the curriculum that can be achieved at home and still maintain the level of engagement from the
students. Principal Elizabeth Carnegie acknowledged that maintaining regular and familiar routines has helped students to focus on their learning from home. Students were asked to wear uniforms for all online lessons,
logging in for pastoral care each morning, before joining online classes with their teachers, which is something welcomed by all of our parents. The College Wellbeing team checked-in daily with the students to ensure individual support was provided, and their voice was heard. Stella students demonstrated a great amount of dedication to their learning and have continued to support each other in their learning.
