St Laurence’s College, South Brisbane, QLD – Building Resilience

Between school, co-curricular activities, work and their social life, teens face lots of new experiences and challenges. Being resilient gives them the ability to tackle these head-on, bounce back from any setbacks and have the best chance at succeeding. Connection and relationships with students are key in supporting Lauries students and preparing St Laurence’s College graduates to enter the world beyond the Lauries gates and continue to be workers and leaders in a digital-first world that demands new skills and dynamic ways of thinking. The College’s House system and holistic education provide students with social, emotional and academic support via rich and flexible learning experiences that help build resilience by encouraging them to try new things with emphasis on growth and learning opportunities. Students are empowered to learn in flexible, often collaborative ways, both inside and outside the classroom. When it comes to building resilience, it is all about the journey and not just the destination! At St Laurence’s College, we do not only celebrate the wins, but help students build a positive mindset and a willingness to grow by focusing on progress and not just success. This is achieved through our Mentoring Program across all Year levels, our inclusive policy in sport and recognising and rewarding student academic improvement.
