St Bernard’s College, Essendon VIC – Reimagining Education
St Bernard’s College has built a strong community and a reputation for its commitment to ongoing improvement and excellence. The College recognises St Bernard’s boys will experience a changed world resulting from technological advances and extreme acceleration in the pace of change associated with communications. Many of the boys
beginning at the College today will work in jobs that don’t yet exist. Being agile in utilising best practice, tailored to the education of boys, St Bernard’s delivers curriculum relevant to this changing landscape, one example being the reimagined Year 9 experience.
In 2023, having acquired a dedicated campus, the Year 9 students will have a new, safe space as they enter the Believe phase of the Belong, Believe, Become structure of schooling. Here they will learn to recognise how they will become the best version of themselves and Believe that they have the skills, attributes and support to finally Become that person in Year 11 and 12. Combined with participation in the Urban Engagement and Santa Monica experiences, students practice learning based on direct experience, inquiry and group cooperation. Like many modern workplaces, these experiences ask for multi-disciplinary approaches to tasks, rather than a single ‘subject discipline’.
