Southern Cross Catholic College – It’s All About The Balance
At Southern Cross Catholic College, balance is more than a theme. It’s a guiding principle. We navigate the intersection of tradition and innovation, ensuring emerging technologies like AI enhance, not replace, the human connection at the heart of learning.
Across all subjects, teachers use AI intentionally to support differentiated learning, reduce workload, and enrich engagement. Whether generating tailored writing scaffolds in English, visualising scientific concepts, or creating adaptive quizzes in Maths, our approach remains student-focused.
We see AI as a “guide on the side” offering timely support while preserving teacher expertise. In the Arts and Humanities, multimodal tools help students express ideas through text, image, and sound. In STEM, AI supports data analysis and simulation, clarifying abstract concepts.
Rigour in assessment remains paramount. Teachers use AI to generate feedback aligned with criteria, ensuring consistency while retaining personal insight.
At Southern Cross, AI is one tool among many. Guided by frameworks like the Australian Framework for Generative AI in Schools, we use it ethically and thoughtfully. Our goal is a balanced approach where technology supports connection, and every student benefits from a high-quality, human-centred education.
