Simonds Catholic College VIC – Reimagining Education

The disruption and uncertainty we faced as we navigated through the pandemic gave us the opportunity to reimagine learning. The classroom space became porous as we beamed into each other’s homes, and consequently our skills to communicate and collaborate in this virtual space developed at a pace we hadn’t imagined possible. No longer bound by four walls, “anywhere, anytime learning”, the heart of 21st century skills, became the norm.

Being just two blocks from the Queen Victoria Market means we have always been able to take full advantage of the many excellent culturaland sporting facilities to support and enhance our students’ learning.

We have been very fortunate to establish an amazing partnership with Science Gallery Melbourne. Simonds and university staff work together to develop units of work and our Year 7 and 8s are based at the STEM Centre for Excellence for part of the day on Tuesdays learning about coding, using microbits to design games and digital pets, developing skills in scientific methodology, critical thinking and problem solving. This sophisticated learning builds on what they cover back at school and exposes them to opportunities in new and emerging industries, cutting edge machines, industry grade labs and researchers in the field.

Following our acquisition of a multi-storey building that backs on to our existing space in the heart of the city, and the completion of refurbishment, 2023 will see all year levels at our West Melbourne site.

Our great dream of being together on one campus will become reality.

Congratulations
