Padua College, Kedron QLD – Building Resilience

The last two years has certainly highlighted some of the challenges the world is facing. Eight hundred years ago, the world also had some challenges when St Francis of Assisi heard the words of Jesus to “Go and rebuild my Church”. Francis saw a different world from the one perceived by most people of his time. While our complex world of today is a lot different from the world of St Francis, the values of a Franciscan education remain just as important, as we prepare our students for the world beyond school. No generation has had to adapt to change as those living in this 21st century. Much of this has been driven by technology, social media and global health. Diverse opinions are often readily available, and many of us are left overwhelmed by the enormity of the tasks ahead of us. Amid rapid change, there is a way forward. Here at Padua College, we recognise the need to be challenged and embrace developing resilience. We aim to shape strong, confident young men in the Catholic tradition, introducing our students to a Franciscan world view, permeated by our values of Joy, Courtesy, Humility, Simplicity and Peace. There is no better recipe for living in a society where everyone is inspired to adapt and flourish, where respect is offered to all, and where servant-leadership promotes a world where the dignity of each individual is central to our values system. The College community supports our boys to become the best that they can be. Together with our Paduan families, we raise young men with a quiet strength, which enables them to achieve and contribute positively to their community and to the world beyond the College.
