Mount Lilydale Mercy College VIC – Reimagining Education
Looking towards the future without losing sight of the present and the merits of the past, while holding onto our Mercy Education values, is what has sustained us as a College for 127 years. The needs of our students, the community we serve and our aspirations for them is central to our daily actions, but it does require some re-imagining.
The change in the Victorian educational landscape is one that excites us and is the result of thoughtful reimagining of education to provide a diversity of options for students. For MLMC, the introduction of one VCE qualification is a long-awaited change. It is more inclusive and provides equal status to students on a vocational pathway and reflects the values, culture and teaching practices at our College. We have embraced this change and have opened the doors to students seeking a non-traditional path to further study or employment.
We offer three VCE streams. Our students have the option of a traditional VCE, as well as two VCE-Vocational Major streams, that vary in subject offerings and pedagogy. This reimagining of the VCE has allowed us to be authentic to our core values of equity and access.
Recognising that adolescents at Year 9 are undergoing developmental change where peer relationships significantly impact wellbeing, and classroom learning is seen as unconnected to the real world, we provide the Horizons program. It is our own program which develops key skills we believe all contemporary learners need to be their best and give their best. It also includes The Rite Journey — a guided journey from adolescence to adulthood.
