Mount Alvernia College, Kedron QLD -Building Resilience
Over the past twelve months, the world has endured some extremely challenging narratives. We have made it our mission as a community to be instruments of change and restoration. Under the direction of our Deputy Principal of Identity and Religious Life, Richard Rogusz, the College makes it a priority to involve our community in various outreach programs, including the Vinnies School Sleep Out, Project for Humanity and R U OK Day to name a few. The core focus of such programs is to educate students on their opportunity to be the next generation of change makers and earth shakers.
We instil resilience in our students through our innovative learning and champion programs, and aim to expand student thinking and foster a sense of courage through our Leadership Development Program, Raise the Bar. This program is designed to offer all students the opportunity to develop the skills to be an exceptional leader. Raise the Bar empowers students in school decision making through involvement in school life, enabling a greater sense of belonging and connectedness. Components of the program include community service outreach activities, public speaking training, peer support and conflict management training and active involvement in cocurricular activities and committees.
We pride ourselves on our unique ability to equip young women to understand the learning dispositions they need to achieve their goals in life. Under the direction of our Principal and Deputy Principals of Development and Learning, students develop critical thinking strategies throughout their time here at Mt A. Our students leave the College with a strong ability to communicate clearly and truthfully, engage in problem solving and collaborate effectively with others. With our Franciscan narrative guiding us, students uphold an ethos of bold aspirations, ethical relationships and agile solutions – all stemming from a community of faith that is inclusive, welcoming and generous in nature.
