Loyola College VIC – Reimagining Education
In a world where change is a constant that we all must come to terms with, schools have an obligation to provide education that enables and empowers its communities to navigate, adapt and flourish.
At Loyola, we call our whole school approach to wellbeing, ‘Positively Ignatian-Positive Education through an Ignatian Lens’. This approach to education places wellbeing in the forefront of our students’ learning journey, enabling them to develop through meaningful, purposeful and positive action. The Positively Ignatian framework underpins the importance of wellbeing through young people’s spiritual, cognitive, physical, emotional and social growth. As such, we draw from our Ignatian Tradition, Positive Psychology and Restorative Practices.
Explicitly we teach (Positive Education through an Ignatian Lens) throughour Personal Development Program drawing from the *PERMAH pillars of Positive Psychology. The program includes lessons on respectful relationships, mindset, resilience, goal setting, mindfulness, gratitude, self-talk, visualisation, character strengths, hope, grit, optimism, broaden and build theory, delayed gratification, emotional awareness, self-control, gratitude and empathy etc……
The Personal Development program comprises of classroom-based lessons, guest speaker presentations and external provider workshops. The program is informed by age-specific content, student consultation, wellbeing survey results at each year level and current trends. Wellbeing surveys are consistent across all year levels and measure cognitive, psychological, social, emotional and physical wellbeing. Student voice is essential for a successful program.
