John Paul College, Frankston VIC – Champions of Change

Designing and building nest boxes for bushfire-affected wildlife is just one way that students at John Paul College have applied their knowledge and skills to real life problems, whilst continuing to adapt to global advancements in technology. The wildlife project originated from student-driven program ‘Altitude’, where pupils from Years 7-10 lead the way in developing practical problem-solving skills in STEAM subjects (Science, Technology, Engineering, Arts and Mathematics).

“The Altitude program gives our students a practical outlet for their learning, better preparing them for the real world and their future careers,” said John Visentin, Principal of John Paul College. “It allows students to use lateral thinking and problem-solving skills to work on issues that they see in the community and on a global scale.”

The program provides students with the opportunity to develop projects based on their interests and learn about emerging technologies in the changing world, which will ultimately shape their future careers.
