Caroline Chisholm Catholic College – Building Resilience

It’s the small, everyday behaviours we encourage in students that have the greatest impact on their behaviour, wellbeing, and resilience. At Caroline Chisholm Catholic College, we do this in a myriad of ways, via our teachers, our students and our families.

Our teachers are trained in the Berry Street Education Model (BSEM) which specifically focuses on a trauma informed approach to teaching. The BSEM provides strategies for teaching and learning that enables teachers to increase engagement of students with complex, unmet learning needs.

The College successfully uses Restorative Practices in building and maintaining relationships. Restorative Practices is based on a belief that the resolution of conflict builds trust and good relationships. This approach helps staff and students learn from mistakes and resolve problems with others. It promotes resilience by helping young people to become aware of the impact of their behaviour on others and to build their commitment to personal accountability and responsibility.

When our families are engaged and connected to the College, then our students have better learning and life outcomes. Our Family Partnerships Team proactively connects with our families and provides myriad opportunities for this collaboration to occur, such as connections with local services and developing programs and educational classes.
