All Hallows’ School, Brisbane QLD -Champions of Change

One hundred and sixty years ago the Sisters of Mercy founded All Hallows’ School on the fundamental belief that the education of women was essential to creating positive social change. Since that time, how we effect, embrace and respond to change, is core to the All Hallows’ experience. While our foundations are built on the legacy of the past, our vision has long been forward-focused and future-driven, characterised by the concepts of deeper learning, critical
thinking, highly developed problem solving, collaboration, advanced technologies, and self-directed and student-centric learning.

We were presented with some interesting challenges in 2020. As with most challenges, there were opportunities to think outside the box, collaborate, review and innovate. The year provided us space to be creative with how we communicated, and how we kept our AHS sisterhood and extended community connected. Our online learning program, AHS@home, provided seamless transition for students in their weeks at home. With the uptake of new technologies, we re-imagined much-loved activities and important rituals and kept our community connected. All Hallows’ School continues to maintain an outward focus and we remain committed to works of justice and mercy. Adapting our Mercy Action program to meet changing needs, our students developed skills and strategies in 2020 to keep our community close and provide service in different ways. The lessons learned, challenges overcome, and the innovative and creative thinking implemented will continue to inform and enhance the All Hallows’ experience in 2021 and beyond.
