Academy of Mary Immaculate – It’s All About The Balance

At the Academy, we’re navigating the evolving landscape of artificial intelligence alongside our students—exploring its potential thoughtfully and responsibly. While AI integrationis continuing to evolve, we’re committed to preparing our young women for a technology- driven future through critical thinking and ethical consideration. By working together with students, teachers, parents and members of the community to create our AI guidelines we ensured that we are using AI ethically to be able to support rather than replace the learning process.

We recognise that artificial intelligence will shape the careers and lives of our students in ways we’re only beginning to understand. The Academy is taking a deliberate, educational approach—teaching students to ask important questions: How does AI work? How do we use it ethically? What uniquely human skills become even more valuable in an AI-augmented world?

Our approach mirrors how we support student innovation more broadly—like Bianca and Yuliya, our 2026 STEM Captains (pictured right), who partnered with the University of Melbourne through the Veski Bionics Girls in STEM Program, to research chronic fatigue syndrome biomarkers. Over several months, Yuliya and Bianca conducted university-level research, analysing complex data and presenting their findings to the school community. Just as Yuliya and Bianca learned to navigate sophisticated research methodologies and communicate scientific concepts, we’re equipping all our students to understand, question, and harness emerging technologies—preparing them not just to use new tools, but to shape the future responsibly.
