St Francis Catholic College, West Melton VIC – Reimagining Education
Reimagining education as we emerge from a global pandemic requires us to listen to the unique needs of our community. After two years of remote learning, students, staff and families are craving connection and belonging. The College has reimagined the future using three key drivers – engagement, community and personalised learning.
Our student engagement framework is based on the core pillars of empathy, endeavour and community. It enables staff to target areas of need for our students. Our Wellbeing, Student Leadership and Community Relations teams plan activities and events that bring us together and connect us to the wider community.
Teaching staff continue using technology to provide individual feedback to students. Professional learning focuses on differentiating to meet the needs of each student. Surveys during the pandemic highlighted that collaboration among staff increased dramatically. To further embed our shared belief that we can positively impact student achievement, the College holds collaborative curriculum meetings dedicated to bringing staff together to plan as teams rather than in silos. The College has evaluated the technologies harnessed during the pandemic and has chosen a hybrid delivery model for parent-teacher interviews, parents and friends meetings and information evenings, with some delivered online and others face-to-face.
