John Paul College, Frankston VIC -Building Resilience

At John Paul College, we consider resilience vital in nurturing strong independent adults. It helps students to develop self-worth, equips them to overcome adversity and relish the challenges life will throw at them. Resilience is embedded in the culture of the College and as a community we focus on student strengths, promote wellbeing, and nurture meaningful relationships. Our comprehensive Pastoral Program creates opportunities for students to develop planning and decision-making skills, and to enjoy the process of learning. We highlight that the objective is not about achieving perfection, and value the process over the outcome and the challenge over the victory. As a community we nurture the supportive relationships between the students, staff and families that develop a sense of belonging and identification. Student resilience is achieved
through genuine relationships, interaction, and engagement. John Paul College staff create daily moments of connection and conversation that continually build students’ confidence and abilities. Students are empowered to be mentally healthy and to utilise empathy, gratitude and mindfulness to build resilience. When faced with a challenge, we support our students to develop coping mechanisms, have confidence in their ability, and to learn strategies to navigate adversity for now and in the future.
